The City of Madras, Oregon is seeking a City Attorney for this rapidly growing community of over 8,000 located on the east side of Oregon’s Cascade Mountains. Madras serves as the county seat of Jefferson County and enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year as well as easy access to outdoor recreation such as mountain biking, hiking, camping, rockhounding, skiing, water sports, and golf.
THE CITY OF MADRAS
Established in 1910, the City of Madras serves a rapidly growing community of over 8,000 under a Mayor-Council form of government with a 2024-2025 budget of $38 million and a team of 39 FTEs. The Mayor is directly elected to a two-year term and only votes in the event of a tie. The six council positions are elected at-large for staggered four-year terms.
THE CITY ATTORNEY
Reporting to the City Council, the City Attorney is chief legal counsel for the City. Responsibilities include providing legal services to the City Council and City commissions and committees, City Administrator, and other City staff. The City Attorney independently performs a wide variety of complex work in broad support of the city goals and objectives.
