The City of Orting, WA is seeking a Public Works Director for this family-friendly bedroom community located in the foothills about an hour south of Seattle. Orting is known for its semi-rural setting, quaint downtown, breathtaking views of Mt. Rainier, and the 21-mile Foothills National Recreation Trail that runs the length of the city. 

Incorporated in 1889, the City of Orting is currently operating as an optional code city served by a strong mayor and a seven-member council. With an annual budget of $39.7 million, the City serves 9,055 residents across 2.5 square miles with a team of 47 FTEs. 

Reporting to the City Administrator, the Public Works Director leads the Public Works Department with an operating budget of $6 million, a capital budget of $29 million, and a team of 20 FTEs. Services include water, sewer, stormwater, streets, parks, cemetery, and maintenance.   

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in engineering or public administration from an accredited institution; three years of progressive management experience; and five years' experience in local government. The City is looking for strong leadership and communication skills, experience working with elected and appointed officials in a variety of situations, and experience writing and presenting information to the public and elected officials. The ideal candidate will also be able to direct effective and amicable community relations.
