Gunnison County is seeking an Emergency Management Director to join this progressive, high-performing organization located in the heart of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Gunnison County serves 17,000 year-round residents and a booming tourist community who enjoy a mountain culture and world-class outdoor recreation opportunities. The County is governed by an elected three-member Board of County Commissioners and operates with a 2025 budget of $73 million and a team of 222 FTEs. Gunnison County is part of the State-determined West All-Hazards Region. 
 

THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR

Reporting to the Assistant County Manager of Health, Human and Safety Services, the Emergency Management Director directs emergency management operations with the assistance of the Deputy Emergency Manager. Responsibilities include organizing and managing the Emergency Operations Center (EOC); developing, reviewing and updating emergency, mitigation, recovery, and continuity policies and plans; liaising with other agencies for emergency planning and coordinating emergency operations; managing Gunnison County communications sites; and developing, coordinating, and conducting training and exercises for Gunnison County and external partners.
