Island County, WA is seeking a Public Works Director for this coastal community of 87,000 located two hours north of Seattle on two main islands: Whidbey and Camano. A gem of the Pacific Northwest, Island County is situated in the beautiful Puget Sound and encompasses 517 square miles with a vibrant and diverse population. The County boasts a mix of cities, communities, and rural areas offering their own unique charms, yet the County seat is just a short drive and ferry ride from the greater Seattle metropolitan area.  
 

THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

The Public Works Director oversees an operations and capital budget of $47 million and a team of 125 FTEs in 10 locations across 5 divisions: Emergency Management, Finance/Business, Parks and Trails, Roads/Surface Water, and Solid Waste. The Director reports directly to the three-member Island County Board of Commissioners and may also receive direction from the County Administrator.
