The City of Bellingham is seeking a Public Works Director for this vibrant community of nearly 100,000 residents located 90 miles north of Seattle. Known for its outdoor and cultural offerings, Bellingham ranks among one of the most scenic and dynamic communities in the Pacific Northwest.  The city consistently ranks as a highly desirable place to live, including "Best Place to Live" by Outside Magazine and "20 Best College Towns in America" by Business Insider. The City operates across 30 square miles with an overall budget in 2025 of $548.9 million and a team of 1035 full-time employees and an additional 50 seasonal workers. 

THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

Reporting to the Mayor, the Public Works Director provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight to the Public Works department and employees. The Public Works Department is comprised of four divisions: Engineering, Operations, Transportation, and Natural Resources. The Public Works Director oversees asset management along with administrative, communication, and financial services for the department. The department operates with a 2025 budget of $143 million and 313 FTES.
