Ward County, ND is seeking a Senior Assistant County Engineer to join their Highway Department, serving a population of 68,870 across 2,056 square miles. Minot is the county seat and the state’s fourth-largest city, located in the scenic Souris River Valley.
THE WARD COUNTY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
The Ward County Highway Department is responsible for the efficient planning, design, construction and maintenance of the County’s highways and bridges, a vast area of 715 miles of roadway and 95 bridges. The Department also manages the County’s GIS mapping and maintains 6 county parks, with swimming, boating, camping, disc golf courses and 15 miles of trails and multi-use paths.
The Department is a team of dedicated professionals committed to serving their community and is comprised of 36 full-time employees and typically 7-10 seasonal employees. The Engineering Department consists of the County Engineer (PE), Senior Assistant County Engineer (PE), Project Manager, Engineering and GIS Specialist, and Engineering Technician. Ward County averages around $8 to $10 million in construction projects each year, consisting of both road and bridge projects.
THE SENIOR ASSISTANT COUNTY ENGINEER
Reporting to the County Engineer, the Senior Assistant County Engineer performs a wide variety of civil engineering work in planning, design, plan and construction review, bidding, contract initiation and management, special project coordination/management, and other similar functions related to the county transportation needs. The position also works on County Park Board projects, building projects, township projects, floodplain management, development reviews, planning and zoning, permitting and other projects that may be assigned.
