Salary Range: $68,013.12 - $78,846.12 annually DOQ

   

The City of Pacific, WA is seeking a Lead Finance Technician for this community of 7,270 located in the fast-growing Puget Sound region midway between Seattle and Tacoma. Reporting to the Finance Director, the Lead Finance Technician supports the Finance Department by using proficient accounting and financial skills in maintaining and reconciling accounts, reports, and records, including payroll accounts payable, cash receipting, utility billing, and business tax filing.  Provides accounting, clerical and administrative support for the Finance and Administration department as needed and is cross trained as backup for accounts payable, utility billing, and accounts receivable.  This position must provide customer service as required.  Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and exercise sound judgment. 
 

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile City bank accounts to the General Ledger.  

  • Maintain records of bank account balances and transactions.  Record all deposits and all checks issued, process remote deposits, balance cash daily, and update daily cash balance reports.  

  • Provide staff support to Finance Director on the day-to-day operations of cash and investment management.  

  • Assist with budget preparation and monitoring. 

  • Prepare reconciliation reports as requested and annual 1099 forms.  

  • Assist with preparation of monthly and annual financial reports, including State and Federal reports. 

  • Research financial data and prepare explanations. 

  • Assist with preparation of grant reimbursement requests and maintain status of grant expenses and reimbursements as requested.  

  • Process month-end journal entries, post allocated charges, and post interest earnings.  

  • Audit work of Finance Technicians when requested and provide training as necessary.  

  • Prepare and process payroll and all related tasks.  

  • Process monthly excise tax returns and generate payments.  

  • Assist with capital projects accounting as needed. 
     

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, and Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field is preferred, but not required with additional experience.  
  • Two to four years’ experience in accounting, finance or bookkeeping, including processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations, preferably working in a municipality. Familiarity with governmental finance is preferred.  
  • An equivalent combination of experience, education and training may be substituted that would provide the required level of knowledge and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
