The City of Everett is seeking a Finance Director for this vibrant city of 114,800 residents—the largest city and the county seat of Snohomish County, WA. Everett is a forward-thinking, innovative, and hard-working community. The city is known for its historic downtown, beautiful waterfront, arts and culture scene, and robust aerospace and advanced manufacturing industry.

THE CITY OF EVERETT

The City of Everett serves a diverse population of 114,800 across 49 square miles with a 2025 total budget of $944 million and a team of over 1,200 FTEs. The City operates under a mayor-council form of government with an elected mayor and seven city council members. Providing essential services and supporting a high quality of life are the City’s top priorities. These services include police, fire, emergency medical services, street maintenance, planning and zoning, libraries, parks and recreation, and general administrative services. The City also operates five enterprises: a water and sewer utility, solid waste (recycling) utility, transit system, parking garage, and two golf courses.

THE FINANCE DIRECTOR

Under the direction of the Mayor or their designee, the Finance Director oversees all financial activities of the City. Responsibilities include leadership of the Finance Department and the City Clerk-Treasurer’s Office, as well as financial planning, investments, cash management, debt management, and internal controls. The Finance Director will lead a team of 26 FTEs committed to supporting a sound financial foundation for the benefit of Everett residents, constituents, and businesses. The department operates with a 2026 budget of $4.2 million and is organized into four divisions: Budget, Accounting, City Clerk, and Procurement.

WHY APPLY

This is a career-defining opportunity to be part of a dynamic, supportive, and high-performing city administration. The City of Everett is seeking a finance professional to help advance change in a growing city with ambitious plans. Everett is a lively, well-regarded, and expanding organization stewarded by a caring and dedicated Mayor, City Council, and staff. Led by a highly capable three-term Mayor who is reinforcing management systems and recruiting the next generation of finance leadership, the Finance Director position is critical to guiding the City’s fiscal strength through accurate and timely financial reporting and forecasting. The City of Everett is a renaissance community that is congenial, diverse, vibrant, and supportive, with a robust economy and high-quality urban amenities offered at an appealing small-town scale.
