The City of Airway Heights is seeking a Director of Public Works for this well-governed and thriving city of 12,000 located eight miles west of Spokane in eastern Washington. The city is known for its small-town charm, low cost of living, low crime rates, and easy access to big city amenities next door in Spokane—the largest metropolitan center in Eastern Washington. The City serves a population of 12,070 across 2.5 square miles with a 2024 budget of $14.3 million and a team of 80 FTEs.
THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS
The Director of Public Works is an executive level position reporting to the City Manager with considerable latitude for independent judgment and initiative. The Director plans, organizes, directs, controls, and evaluates the City's infrastructure. In this capacity, the Director oversees the Water Transmission and Distribution System, Sewer Collection System, Wastewater Treatment System, Storm Drainage System, Transportation System, Refuse Collection, Facilities Management, and Fleet Management. The Director manages the City Transportation Benefit District and provides supervision of 7 managers/supervisors. The Public Works Department operates with a budget of $11.5 million and a team of 16 FTEs.
